Social Media Manager | 2019-2023

The Challenge

The Great American Triathlon team needed help growing and leveraging their social media in order to increase ticket sales for their event. The triathlon presented a unique marketing challenge, as it aimed to capitalize off of the popularity of its predecessor, Eppie’s Great Race, without infringing on the brand. The Great American Triathlon needed to establish itself as a new tradition for Sacramento athletes, earning its place in their summer schedule.

The Campaign

The goal of this campaign was to create a welcoming experience for athletes of all skill levels and backgrounds: from families looking for some summer fun, to skilled athletes seeking a new challenge. In my posts, I established a tone for the triathlon that was friendly, competitive, and enthusiastic. By executing my content strategy, I was able to generate awareness, boost ticket sales, and keep participants informed about how to prepare and what to expect for race day.

The Great American Triathlon

My Role

I managed the social media accounts for the triathlon and assisted with further marketing efforts during the on-season of January to July. My duties included planning a content calendar, editing photos, creating graphics, writing copy, managing communities, and running ad campaigns. After our success with the 2019 race, I rejoined the team for the race’s return in 2022 and 2023. This year, I have also helped to rebuild the website by implementing SEO updates, writing new content, and recommending UI improvements.

The Results

By utilizing both paid and organic content in 2019, we were able to grow our reach from around 300 to almost 13,000. Through this effort, we were able to more than quadruple our ticket sales, generating sizable donations for the triathlon’s beneficiaries. Feedback from participants was overwhelmingly positive, demonstrating that we had succeeded in our mission of establishing a new tradition for Sacramento athletes.
